There are many ways to be artistic, I have done gardening, sewing, pottery and even ran a catering service using food as art for the centerpieces. Now I enjoy canvas art, using oil, acrylic, and mixed media. My work is eclectic and colorful, realistic and abstract. I get inspiration from our travels, books and magazines. Often I will limit my painting to just a portion of a photo rather than its entirety focusing on a specific detail. Every painting is important, and I take care of every detail from start to finish, including painting the sides so it can be hung without a frame. All acrylic paintings have a satin or glossy glaze giving it the illusion of depth and also for protection. I paint because it brings me joy and a sense of accomplishment. I never thought this would be something i would be doing as a retiree. I have 3 children, and 4 grandchildren who, when they see me painting, will say “I got dibs on that one”. People who come into my booth are always smiling and tell me the paintings make them happy. I reply, then I’ve achieved my goal.
