ArtWalk Features the Best of the Area’s Vibrant Art Scene
More than 200 artists, dozens of venues, top local performers, poets and filmmakers will participate in ArtWalk Ventura, the area’s largest arts festival, Sept. 21-22. The event has seen an unprecedented level of participation this year.
This free, family-friendly celebration of the creative spirit will feature the work of area artists in local galleries, businesses, restaurants and on the grounds of Mission Park and the Albinger Museum. Popular local bands, theater groups, aerialists, poets, dancers, a film festival, street painting, puppetry, a children’s area and large art installations will all be a part of this event run by an enthusiastic all-volunteer team. Live painting and pottery demonstrations will also be featured. The hours are 12-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 and 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. The route starts on Main Street Downtown and goes up Ventura Avenue, encompassing the Museum of Ventura County, the new Vita Arts complex at Garden & Main, Working Artists Ventura and the Bell Arts Factory. In between are numerous galleries, businesses and restaurants featuring local artists and musicians. Maps and signage will guide visitors. New to ArtWalk 2024: • A film festival and poetry readings in the Museum of Ventura County Pavilion. FilmFest 2024 features the work of award-winning directors Lorenzo DeStefano and Deborah Anttoinese and many other talented filmmakers. That event runs Saturday 2:30-7:45 p.m. and Sunday 1:30-6:30 p.m. Former Ventura County Poet Laureate Marsha de la O and others will lead readings each day preceding the film festival, 12 - 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday. • Colorful street painting from the Ojai Mandala Artists will go in front of the San Buenaventura Mission. The public is invited to participate, beginning Sept. 19. • A children’s area in Mission Park will feature free face painting, hands-on art, a giant selfie octopus and bubbles. Adjacent to the event are neighborhood celebrations of the Pura Avenida Mural on Wall Street and the Avenue Art Stroll & Car Show featuring murals, skateboard and student art, a low-rider car display and entertainment at the Avenue Senior Center. Performers in Mission Park include the Rubicon Theatre, Ventura County Ballet, Aerial Studio, Aztec Dance, Claddagh Irish Dance, Heavy Hitters, Bombafiya, Singular Nature, R.J. Mischo Blues Band, Delta by the Sea, Eaton Young, Boom Duo and Shaky Feelin'.
Transit to ArtWalk Ventura and along the route will again be at no cost through the generosity of Gold Coast Transit.
