Plein Air Painting by various artists
Lisa Sachs, Jim Darin, and Galina Richardson
Lisa, Jim, and Galina met during life model figure drawing sessions at Studio Channel Islands, and started to plein air paint together pre-Covid. The three recently joined Laura Jespersen's Plein Air Ventura County Painters and are enjoying the shared experience with so many wonderful artists. Jim Darin is an accomplished watercolor artist who enjoys painting nautical scenes and is often a jurist and instructor, Galina Richardson is an award winning portrait watercolorist, and Lisa Sachs enjoys working in pastels and mixed media when making her colorful collages. Ryan Yablow and Bobbi Yablow

Bebe Betker
I am a local artist who works in oils. i strive to depict stories and moments that we all share as we live our lives Anette Power
Award-winning artist Anette Power grew up on an island off the Swedish coast and spent her early years in the US, working in Animation fine-tuning her sense of light, color, and mood before entering the plein air circuit and becoming a full-time fine artist. Power has enjoyed her local engagement with the arts in Ventura County, teaching, jurying exhibits and as an active board member of WVAG over 8 years. She’s an artist member with California Art Club and maintains a working studio in Newbury Park. “I see my artwork as a love letter to living, my way of processing what it means to be here.” Her current focus is on exploring a more personal interpretation of what she sees and finding that sweet spot between abstraction and realism.” You can see that work in her exhibit “Situated Within” along with Mary Kolada Scott at Fox Fine Jewelry this summer. Helle Urban
Helle Urban has been an artist/illustrator for 40+ years. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Over the years, Helle has worked in the animation industry and owned a Fine Art Gallery in Solvang. Helle has illustrated numerous children’s books, receiving Children’s Books Awards. Fine Art has always been Helle’s true love. Specializing in oils, her favorite subjects include scenery, people and animals. Helle’s other adventure is learning to paint in Plein Air (painting outdoors among nature). A two week trip to Sicily with 18 other artists painting Plein Air was such an amazing experience! This summer Helle is going to Sweden and Denmark to paint for two weeks with a group of artists. “I love traveling and exploring new areas to paint!” Helle’s artist statement- “To be able to create paintings that brings joy to others is so rewarding. I feel so blessed to have a gift, I do not take for granted! I’m always striving to be better and learning new techniques.” |
Laura Jespersen
I have been drawing the things around me for most of my life. I studied architecture at Cal Poly, receiving my BARCH, and then worked in architectural offices before evolving to become an artist. I lead the painting group PLEIN AIR VENTURA COUNTY, and we paint on location somewhere in town each week. This helps me practice painting quickly, see more color in the landscape, and be in the moment. Painting with friends makes it fun. Lois Freeman-Fox
I studied art and art history at Cornell University receiving a B.F.A. and then got my M.A. in sculpture from UC Berkeley. I studied film at NYU and after a long career as a feature film editor I returned to the studio where I make figurative art, based on life drawings and paint en plein air inspired by the agrarian beauty of orange and avocado orchards in Ventura County. Carol Morrissette
After raising 5 children, and returning to teach for 15 years, I am now enjoying retirement with a passion I never knew could be so fulfilling. Watercolor is my passion! It's like a "box of chocolates", not always sure what you're going to get. I love the surprises! I love watching the water do it's work! I've been painting with Plein Air Ventura County painters for a couple of years now, and love being outside with other artists, as opposed to painting solo in my studio. Bethann Brody
After working as a theme park designer for Walt Disney Imagineering for the last 37 years, Bethann finds herself new to the world of Plein Air. She is a recent transplant to Ventura and thankful to have become a member of the talented group of Plein Air Artists of Ventura. She is grateful to have joined this group and with them has explored and painted many of the beautiful local places Ventura County has to offer. Favorite subjects include botanicals, and her cat Oreo. Linda Rinaldi
After spending her career in the virtual world as a Graphic Artist, Linda has come back to the real world. This time to a world she can touch and feel, with fewer technical difficulties. Growing up in the west San Fernando Valley, she enjoyed horseback riding, sports, and drawing. After many years of drawing horses she moved to her next love, rock and roll. Drawing her favorite rock stars helped develop a love of portraits. After high school Linda received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Otis Art Institute, and spent her career in advertising. Twenty five years and two kids later, now retired in Thousand Oaks, Linda is pursuing oil painting. After dusting the cobwebs off and a few painting classes later, she started painting with the Plein Air Ventura County plein air group. This group has been a passport to a new world of discovering new places . Plein air painting is such a unique experience, and Linda is very grateful to be a part of the creative community of beautiful Ventura County. Terence Ulrich
