Featured artist:Ventura born and raised, Brian Calvert creates art that feels unmistakably Californian. An illustrator and painter, Calvert draws inspiration from the places and culture that have surrounded him all his life — from surfers and the Pacific to pine forests, mountains and California’s open road.
Known for bold lines, bright colors and a deceptively simple aesthetic, Calvert’s work captures both the energy and the quieter side of life in California. A lifelong artist who began drawing as a child and started surfing in his teens, he credits Ventura’s rare proximity to both ocean and mountains as a continuing source of inspiration.
