A 28 Year Retrospective of Stone Sculptures By Michele Chapin
Michele will be exhibiting more than 50 stone sculptures, including many new works. Her sculptures are colorful and sensual in nature and will be exhibited amongst the variety of stone used to create them. A visitor to Stoneworks will experience an actual working artist’s studio littered with rocks, tools, and sculptures. Also on exhibit will be a selection of new works created from the Chasing Beauty Series started in 2014. Many of these sculptures were carved for a solo exhibit in Los Angeles collaborating with her 89 year old mother living with dementia. These New works began after her 2013 retrospective exhibit with painter Susan Petty at the Santa Paula Art Museum.
For over 23 years Michele has opened Stoneworks Studios for ArtWalk Ventura as a major destination in Ventura’s Westside Cultural District. Michele teaches stone carving year round and showcases the works or her students, often youth at risk. Michele and partner Guy Wilson have sponsored and created several community Artwalk projects with local artists of all ages. Stoneworks Studios sponsors First Friday’s Ventura in their gallery, working with local and outside community partners hosting the talents of numerous musicians, and artists for no profit. First Fridays Ventura is a free monthly event year round showcasing Ventura’s Vibrant Art Scene, hosting a variety of special entertainment to compliment the collectible artworks on display at each location. The Origami Experience: Mychal Arata
Artist Mychal Arata will transform hundreds of pieces of paper into a work of art in the Gallery at Stoneworks Studios for ArtWalk Ventura 2016. Experience colorful and whimsical paper sculptures coming to life in a very unique gallery installation. Each piece of paper has been hand selected for its color and patterns from large stacks of used magazines, cut into origami paper and meticulously folded into delicate paper sculptures. Every little piece of art is methodically placed to sculpt and paint a fantastic forest meadow.

From The Sublime To The Ridiculous
Mixed Media Sculptures by Sarah Jenks Flesher
These offbeat and colorful creations have a mythical story of their own. Sarah has been a prolific painter and California artist for over 40 years. She works in a multitude of mediums, creating believable characters from her imaginary world. Her art can rise from the ground or fly from the ceiling. Sarah’s art which is very narrative in its imagery, symbolism, and subject matter often gives the viewer a glimpse into her quirky sense of humor. Any materials within Sarah’s grasp are fair game for her imaginary recipes used in her creative compositions. Her works can be seen during First Friday’s Ventura at Stoneworks Studios, daily at C&C gallery, and at Drag Queen Bingo on the Second Sunday of each month at Paddy’s.
The Gang of Five
The Second Gallery will feature an exhibition show casing works by Karen Brown, Judy Gibbs, Nancy Hefferen, Tiger Huang, Leslie Plimpton, and Betsy Quinn. At a Fall 2003 Artwalk Ventura, several members from the Odyssey Art league, hung their first group show at Stoneworks Studios. For the past 13 years at Artwalk Ventura this dedicated group of artists have been exhibiting paintings, drawings, prints, and encaustics in the second gallery at Stoneworks Studios. Many of these artists have been actively exhibiting and teaching in the Ventura Art Community for over 20 years.
