Saturday Only - 12-6pm Exhibit
The Westside Community Development Corporation presents an event to reinvest in and celebrate the Pura Avenida Mural. The mural, completed in 2022, stretches along a 600-foot-long wall "canvas" between 267- 155 Wall Street and features local landmarks, culture, food, vintage cars, and more. The mural initiative was developed by WCDC in cooperation with local artists as a means to engage marginalized youth through community art. A handful of local at-risk youth worked alongside established local artists and mural makers to bring rich Westside culture and history to life. In total, more than 50 artists and over a dozen community members were involved in realizing the project.
Events include Pablitos Tacos Mr. Softee Lofi BBQ Non-profit tabling by Ventura Land Trust, Swapmeet Justice, Idea Hub, WCDC/WCC, and Two Trees Church. Brought to the community by: Westside Community Development Corporation and Parks and Rec. Dept 100 Block of Wall Street This 600-foot-long mural started with a conversation with local youth upon the installation of the WCDC’s last mural project, Westside Hillside. From there came a commitment to create a high-profile mural involving marginalized and disenfranchised young people of the community. Together, the WCDC, the Parks and Recreation Department and our Pura Avenida Mural Team worked on this project from concept to finish for 18 months. Nearly 60 different artists and community members participated in this project. |
