For ArtWalk 2016, the City of Ventura's PODS® Gallery will provide an interactive experience directly tied into the Public Art Program.
Pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers and passersby have been enjoying public art as Ventura’s Public Art Program has commissioned many local artists to transform utility boxes/traffic control boxes into new public artworks. The Ventura Streetscape Mural Project aims to engage community members in the arts and “soften” the city’s hard infrastructure, such as bus shelters and utility boxes that house traffic signal controllers. Started in 2007 with nine painted utility boxes, the Streetscape Mural Project continues beyond the downtown area to bring community participation and publicly accessible artwork into many of Ventura’s neighborhoods.
This year we are promoting the Adopt-A-Box program in hopes of keeping the program moving forward by acquiring sponsorship for artists to paint more boxes throughout the city. Come visit our PODS Container® on Main St and California. You won't miss it. Our PODS Container® will showcase bright and lively designs on the exterior by four talented artists, Lynn Fogel, Patricia Cadenas, Michelle Gould and Jen Livia. A fun interactive piece this year will make it possible for YOU to paint a box of your own! We will have set up sample utility boxes boxes for the community to paint! If you love this project and would like to sponsor a box or you're an artist and you have some great ideas we will have applications and information available at the PODS® Container. We look forward to enjoying the Artwork Ventura 2016 with you!
