A Tradición Universal
As one of Downtown Ventura's flagship events, ArtWalk has become not only a celebration of local talent, but also a symbol of international collaboration. This year, ArtWalk Ventura is honored to host over 20 Oaxacan Artists who will be here to exhibit their work, teach classes, and work on other cooperative projects.
One of the highlights this year is the Tradición Universal mural project, with is a collaborative project between Rolando Sigüenza, our 2016 Global Artist of Distinction, MB Hanrahan, our 2016 Artist of Distinction, and Uriel Leon, a Mayor of Ventura Arts Award recipient. Similarly to last year's Havana to Ventura project, this mural began as a conversation across boarders in a series of phone calls, emails, and video chats.
Those boarders dissolved with Sigüenza's arrival earlier this month. And just this week, the mural's home on Ventura Avenue and Harrison Street was primed and the artists went to work, first sketching the design and now applying the first colors. Through photos shared by MB, we have been able to put together a slide show of the progress below.
The artists will be there at least through the next few days, so please stop by and see the progress in person. Who knows, maybe you might even get a chance to contribute.
ArtWalk Ventura 2016 is Oct. 1st from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Oct. 2nd from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Events are free unless otherwise noted.
