Exhibition Title: Re-Birth
This exhibition marks the first official collaboration between Art City and Ventura Artists Union. Art City Gallery will host the Union's first show in over five years.
Re-Birth features a refined collection of artworks by new and old
Ventura Artist Union members. Considering the organization's 20-year history in conjunction with a heavy influx of new members, this is an impressive arsenal of work to choose from. This diverse collection of works reveals a regional art ecosystem rich in genres ranging from figurative to non-figurature, from minimalist to Rococo, from gravitas to levity, and from socially engaged to art for art's sake.
The Re-Birth Exhibition will host an event on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4:30 p.m. with cocktails in the Avant Garden from 4:30-5:30, followed by opening ceremonies in the Art City Gallery from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m.
The Ventura Artists Union Gallery exists to promote work by its members and to sponsor cultural events, and advocate for city and county support of local art, culture, and artists. The Union was established in 1997, to be a dynamic and diverse arts organization, including as members artists, poets, musicians writers, performance artists, performers, and creative people of all interests. The Union is an inclusive group, seeking to promote the interests of its members, by encouraging creativity, mutual support, and public appreciation of contemporary art. The Union showcases quality exhibitions and performances by members and non-members, which promote and support the purpose and goals of the organization.
About The Venue
Paul Lindhard started Art City Studios 30 years ago in Ventura as a personal carving space. It has since grown to include 20 other artists and a place for carvers to purchase quality stone from those who work it.
Lindhard, a former ArtWalk Artist of Distinction, has been a vital support to many public art projects such as the Ventura Welcome Sign on West Main Street, the bus bench across the street from the Welcome Sign, the Serra Cross Park rock walls and the entrance pieces at Cemetery Memorial Park in midtown.
Art City Gallery and Ventura Artists Union are dedicated to empowering Ventura’s vibrant arts community to unite in support of cultural events, advocate for city and county support of local art, culture and artists, and to engage both locally and globally as arts professionals. It is important to Art City Gallery that creative professionals feel drawn to the Ventura area, contributing to a surplus of meaning, energy and direction in these wildly thirsty times.
